Someone from out of town recently asked me if St. George is a “good place to raise a family.”
And honestly, it’s hard to answer that with a straightforward yes or no.
When it comes to location, everyone has different needs and preferences. The aspects of St. George that appeal to me aren’t necessarily the ones that will appeal to you.
And for stupid legal reasons, real estate agents aren’t supposed to talk about social questions that might be construed as “controversial.”
But I can tell you that my family absolutely loves living here.
Of course, like any city, St. George has its quirks. But as a long-time resident and realtor, my experience has been that the pros far outweigh the cons.
In case you’re considering a move, here are four things I love about living here:
1. St. George is home to blue skies (and hot air balloons!), clean air, and killer sunsets. Sure, it gets hot in the summer, but we’re far enough south that our winter temperatures rarely drop below 30 degrees. I think that’s a pretty good deal!
2. Unlike in major cities, getting “stuck in traffic” around here means an extra four to ten minutes in the car. For context, that’s not even enough time to listen to three of your favorite Taylor Swift songs. (Devastating, I know.)
3. We have miles and miles of trails and bike paths. Utah is kind of the place to be if you love the great outdoors. A walk at sunrise? A quick ride on the Telegraph bike trail in the afternoon? Another walk to catch the sunset I mentioned earlier? Sounds like the perfect day to me.
4. Art is an integral part of our lives here. We do farmers’ markets and theater productions like you’ve never seen. Our community of local creators is incredibly talented, and we always have events going on.
People are moving to St. George from all over the country, so who knows? Maybe in 20 years, we’ll have lost our small-town charm. It’s impossible to say for sure.
But as of right now, I can tell you that this is a fantastic place to put down roots. If you crave community and a connection to nature, I think you’re going to love it here.
Of course, that’s just my opinion. *wink*
